CHERUBS

CHERUBS is a dark comedy written by Toby McShane that blends the fantastical with sharply observed human drama. The story follows two guardian angels cast out of heaven and condemned to document the deaths of suicide victims for eternity — a surreal and often grim assignment that forces them to confront questions of morality, purpose, and the limits of divine justice. Through razor-edged dialogue and moments of absurd humor, the film navigates issues of faith, redemption, and celestial bureaucracy, all while offering an unflinching yet darkly comic look at the human condition.

The film was co-directed by Ana Pieri Zuercher and Pietro Zuercher, whose collaborative vision brought to life the script’s blend of absurdity and poignancy. Produced by the Swiss company Cinedokke, the production is noted for its striking visual style, blending the surreal with gritty realism to mirror the story’s tonal shifts.
